Centro Cardiologico Monzino was founded in 1981 and it is the first hospital in Europe dedicated exclusively to the research, treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease.
Research activities are fully integrated with clinical departments, to translate as quickly as possible scientific results into new approaches for prevention, diagnosis, and patient care.

All the activities are inspired by values such as high-level of specialization, research, interdisciplinary care and continuity of services, aimed at keeping attention to the person at the center.
The Institute is equipped with the only specialized Emergency Room in Italy exclusively dedicated to cardiovascular emergencies.
Monzino is also a teaching hospital that hosts the School of Medicine, the Schools of Specialization in Cardiology and Heart Surgery, and the degree course in Cardiocirculatory Pathophysiology of the University of Milan. Clinical, research, and educational activities are integrated into a multidisciplinary approach with the mission “Research for Care”.
Since 2000, Monzino is part of the IEO Group (European Institute of Oncology and related companies).

Electrophysiology

Monzino is a leading Centre in the treatment of heart rhythm disorders and a point of reference for treatment of the most challenging atrial and ventricular disorders.

The activity is characterised by the use of sophisticated diagnostic systems, cutting-edge operating techniques and specially-trained electrophysiologists with the experience and expertise to diagnose and treat all types of heart rhythm.

New ablation tools to improve arrhythmia treatments, miniaturized diagnostic monitoring systems, and new implantable devices make Electrophysiology procedures much less invasive.

Heart and Vassels Surgery

Cardiovascular surgery encompasses both surgical and percutaneous treatments for a wide spectrum of heart and vascular conditions, ranging from ischemic heart disease to heart valve surgery and both acute and chronic aortic diseases. Alongside traditional techniques, the field now includes advanced, minimally invasive endoscopic procedures, which offer substantial benefits, such as reduced post-operative pain and shorter hospital stays.

Monzino stands out as one of the few hospitals in Italy and Europe where up to 90% of heart diseases can be addressed using these minimally invasive endoscopic methods. This approach offers key advantages, including lower post-operative pain, reduced rates of infection and blood transfusion, shorter stays in CVICU and in the hospital, quicker recovery times, and improved aesthetic outcomes. Monzino is also recognized both nationally and internationally as a reference centre for the Ozaki technique.
