Fondazione Poliambulanza in Brescia recently hosted the high-level course “Laser Technologies in Anterior Segment & Refractive Surgery – Refractive Live”, held on 11 April 2025. Coordinated by Dr. Vincenzo Miglio and scientifically led by Dr. Nicola Canali, the event brought together ophthalmologists in training and experienced specialists for a unique combination of theoretical sessions and live-streamed surgeries from the operating theatre .

Participants witnessed advanced procedures performed using state-of-the-art equipment:

  • FEMTOLASER Catalys for femtosecond-assisted cataract surgery

  • Centurion phacoemulsification system

  • IOL Master and Callisto Eye for digital planning and intraoperative alignment

Techniques presented included SMILE and SILK refractive corrections, implantation of EDOF, multifocal, and toric lenses, and laser-assisted cataract surgery—all demonstrating the precision and efficiency of digital workflows.

Poliambulanza’s ophthalmology department, led by the prestigious Dr. Miglio—who has completed over 16,000 surgical procedures and more than 1,000 laser refractive treatments—serves as a national centre of excellence, accredited by Joint Commission International (JCI).
